Members of Congress are preparing a letter to Transportation Secretary Foxx seeking a “timely commitment” from the Department on when the Hours of Service (HOS) efficacy study will be completed and submitted. So far, more than 40 members have signed the letter which is being circulated by Reps. Hanna (D-NY), Rice (R-SC), Radel (R-FL) and Rokita (R-IN).
ABA participated in a conference call last week with congressional staffers to discuss the impact of the HOS rules on businesses and is continuing to work closely with industry allies to explore possible relief from the regulations.
Focus of the field study is on changes to the 34 hour restart provision. The study was mandated as part of the surface transportation bill passed in 2012 and was to have been completed by March 31, 2013, so it is already five months overdue.
