ABA’s Congressional Meet and Greet series continued on Tuesday, Dec 2 with a visit from Rep. Markwayne Mullin R-OK-2. Rep. Mullin was elected to Congress in 2012 and serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure and Natural Resources Committees. Members of the business community representing Mars, Inc., the American Frozen Food Institute and the National Manufacturers Association heard about Rep. Mullin’s positions on topics such as SNAP, labeling, Hours of Service, the Farm Bill and tax reform.
Being an owner of a construction business in his own district, Rep. Mullins’ positions are typically pro-business. “We need to take a business approach to everything,” he said. “We need to let people who create new business and new jobs to keep doing it.”
On Hours of Service he said, “The 36-Hour Restart [rule] is killing us. It causes all kinds of headaches. The 36-hour break between shifts doesn’t help drivers to be well rested, it’s draining.” “It just doesn’t work for many industries and it makes schedules more difficult for the drivers.”
