This week ABA submitted two comment packages to FDA on proposed rules implementing the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). In its comments, ABA voiced support of FDA’s proposal to create a system of reliable certification bodies and third party auditors for food entering the U.S. While supportive of the approach, ABA expressed concerns regarding the proposed reporting requirements for auditors when conducting a consultative audit.
The second package addressed FDA’s proposal for verifying foreign ingredient suppliers; ABA supported the option where greater flexibility was allowed which would also streamline resources utilized.
ABA continues to urge the Agency to make the FSMA rules as simple and straightforward as possible as these final rules will guide and direct companies both large and small.
