FTRAC Members met last week to discuss critical issues for bakers, including ABA’s strategy in response to FDA’s tentative determination on PHO/Trans GRAS. ABA is finalizing its recommendations to the agency on this pivotal issue. The Committee also discussed FSMA implementation including several new agency proposals on safe food transportation, intentional adulteration and high risk definition for food. The committee received an update from John Woody, FDA Senior Policy Analyst, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, on FSMA’s Food Defense regulatory action to require a written plan. Lastly, the committee discussed nutrition issues including the Grain Chain’s strategy for response to the 2015 Dietary Guidelines review and pending nutrition fact panel revisions.
Over 40 baking industry representatives attended the meeting to weigh in on the plethora of topics covered by ABA’s FTRAC.
FTRAC will meet again on June 9 and 10, 2014 in Washington, DC. For more information about the ABA FTRAC Committee and how to join, please contact Samantha Moore, email@example.com.
