This week, ABA’s Food Technical and Regulatory Affairs Committee (FTRAC) met in Washington, DC to discuss top nutrition, food safety and a “tsunami” of regulatory issues facing the wholesale baking industry.
The committee held a productive dialogue on the proposed revisions to the Nutrition Facts Panel and serving size proposals, and what difficulties bakers would face during implementation. The group also talked extensively about pending Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) proposals, and received an update on the association’s recently submitted comments on the defining high risk foods draft guidance. Additionally, members heard updates on Risk Management in Food Safety, the AIB Kill Step Study, Canadian regulatory policy and Biotechnology.
ABA’s next FTRAC Meeting will be held on November 5th – 6th in Columbus, Ohio, with a special tour of the Bundy Baking Museum in Urbana.
