ABA is entering its seventh year working with Kansas State University to offer a summer internship to students interested in the baking industry. As the summer season begins, we’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our stellar new interns. This week we’re featuring Jesse Miller, KSU School of Business, Operations and Supply Chain Management major.
Q: What are the top two things you hope to take away from your experience at ABA?
A: The first thing I would like to take away would be the experience of life in an office. Plenty of my friends have interned with other companies, have complained that all they did was fetch coffee, sort files and were kind of isolated. They never had a chance to be involved at meetings or involved with their program. I am excited to be part of the team here at the ABA to help with existing projects or help create ideas for projects down the road! I would also like to take away the experience of living in a big city like Washington D.C. for the summer. Coming from a school out in the middle of Kansas in a fairly small town, you can imagine that life is a little bit different out there. There is more of everything here in Washington D.C. To live in a place for two months with as many attractions as this is exciting and I am hoping I will be able to see everything over the summer.
Q: Is there a “must-do” activity you hope to accomplish while you’re in DC?
A: I have been signed up to go on a tour of the Pentagon for a while now. I hope the wait will soon be over and I can cross it off my list! I am also excited to be able to go to Arlington National Cemetery to see the changing of the guard.
Q: What is your dream job after you graduate?
A: My dream job after I graduate would be at a company overseeing the supply chain for their products. It is interesting to see all of the different products one company can make and for them to create a way that is unique for that product to get put together and shipped out to its customers in a timely manner.
Q: What is one fun or interesting thing you could share about yourself?
A: During my free time on weekends when I am at home or at school I like to go out and golf. Golf has always been something I do with a group of my friends to get our minds off of school for a part of our day. I find it relaxing and I like to challenge myself to try to get better at it every time I go out and play.
