ABA supports three additional provisions included in the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending deal reached last night by House and Senate lawmakers and set to be voted on later this week, providing added relief to bakers.
The spending bill includes text that:
- Grants more flexibility to Schools in order to meet whole grain standards in the USDA’s School Meals Program;
- Freezes sodium restrictions at current levels, which kicked in July 1, until science shows they should be lowered further to benefit the health of children; and
- Instructs the Department of Health and Human Services with ensuring that the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee— charged with making policy recommendations to it and the USDA — focuses its work on nutrient and dietary recommendations “based on sound nutrition science.”
