FDA finalizes new Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will hold a briefing for industry stakeholders to discuss the issuance of the final Nutrition Facts label after issuing proposed and supplemental proposed rules.
The label is designed to provide information on nutritional content of food products so that consumers can make informed choices. The FDA will issue two final regulations simultaneously in the Federal Register:
- One on the label content based on new nutrition science and design changes (technical name: Food Labeling: Revision of the Nutrition and Supplement Facts Label)
- One on revised serving size requirements on which the nutrition labeling is based and criteria for labeling certain package sizes (technical name: Food Labeling: Serving Sizes of Foods that Can Reasonably Be Consumed at One-Eating Occasion; Dual-Column Labeling; Updating, Modifying, and Establishing Certain Reference Amounts Customarily Consumed; Serving Size for Breath Mints; and Technical Amendments)
