This past week 28 front line supervisors from plants all over the U.S. arrived in Norfolk, Va. to take part in a three-day Front line Leadership training course developed through a partnership with Hearthside Foods Solutions and ABA. The class focuses on developing strong leaders that can overcome challenges and set goals to improve the plant through role-playing exercises, in-depth discussions, and industry experts’ experience-sharing. Students were engaged in discussions on how to manage difficult employees, tackling performance problems and how they personally can be a better leader that motivates and produces a successful work environment.
Pat Richards, Vice President of Organization Development and Recruitment of Hearthside Foods Solutions is an industry veteran and facilitated the Front Line Leadership Program. She leads discussions on how to be an effective communicator, facilitating small groups and effective meetings, and identifying their strengths and weaknesses as a leader. Industry experts are also brought in to discuss union and non-union disciplinary actions on handling grievances, as well as on problem solving and root cause analysis.
By the third day students felt ready to return to the plant with new approaches to running effective and efficient facilities, leading a team, problem-solving and managing their time to be an effective supervisor.
