The ABA HR and Safety Committee members received updates on recent developments taking place in Washington on labor and workplace safety at last week’s HR and Safety Summer Meeting in Chicago. Angie Loftus, Area Director, Chicago North Area Office for the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), shared her insights on reporting and e-recordkeeping requirements necessary for bakers to stay in compliance with government regulations.
The Committee heard from Tisha Payne and Elisa Matta of H&S Baking Co. on their recent experience with a Federal Government Immigration Audit and the steps bakers need to take to ensure they are ready if a similar audit were to arise in their facilities.
Attendees also had the opportunity to hear about industry initiatives and resources that ABA has to offer. Jon Anderson, President of JRA Occupational Safety Consulting, updated the group on the ABA Safety Recognition Program that has, to-date, awarded nearly 160 bakeries for their efforts to reduce workplace injuries and illness. Attendees also heard from Dave Van Laar, Senior Advisor to the President & CEO: B&CMA Transition & Development, on the unique educational offerings that ABA offers to ensure that new hires have the skills needed to excel in their careers with the baking industry.
The Committee will meet next as part the ABA Fall Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. this September. To register, click here: http://www.cvent.com/d/5gqpb4
