“We’re making bread history.” This is what Founder/Director, Tiptree World Bread Awards USA with Food is GREAT, Caroline Kenyon exclaimed as she highlighted the significance of the World Bread Awards being transplanted to the USA for the first time ever.
ABA partnered with the event held yesterday in Brooklyn, N.Y., where an esteemed panel of food and baking industry mavens judged 13 categories of artisan bread.
“Entering the awards makes you really think about your product,” said Kenyon. “It’s also an accolade. It’s a badge for your packaging…it’s good to do something different.”
ABA-sponsored Judge Ryan Morgan, Head Baker/Owner, Sixteen Bricks, said he was excited for “anything that can change the idea about bread.” Judging the baguette category, he anticipated one of the most compelling considerations to be, “How does traditional bread hold up to a seeded loaf?”
Artisan bakers sent bread to the competition from all over the country to be in contention for the best-in-bread award. The submissions were anonymous to the judges, and the Awards Evening Reception will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018.
Chair Stephen Hallam summarized the event and every day in the baking industry, “Today is a day about bread.”
Miss the chance this time to submit your bread? Stay tuned for next year’s event!
