Dust explosions have raised the profile of dust issues. The U.S. Chemical Safety & Hazard Investigation Board has recommended that ABA continue promoting improvements in combustible dust hazard awareness and control throughout the wholesale baking industry.
ABA is actively engaged on these issues urging cost-effective regulatory solutions. While many existing housekeeping standards already address the hazards related to the accumulation of potentially combustible dust and particles, OSHA is considering a rulemaking process that would result in a general industry combustible dust standard.
The baking industry is dedicated to providing safe workplaces for our employees and we are proud of the industry’s efforts to improve workplace safety.
- ABA has completed a combustible dust resource guide for its membership (members only) and the Chemical Safety Board (CSB) acknowledged ABA’s combustible dust guide
- ABA and AIB International are working to determine if changes or improvements may be necessary in bakeries.
This issue falls under the ABA Safety (Workplace) Committee.
