After a strong first day of programming and connection across The Broadmoor, highlighted by dine-around dinners with colleagues from across the industry, ABA Convention attendees gathered again Tuesday for another full day of learning, leadership and collaboration within the commercial baking community.
The Gist: State Policy Update Kicks Off the Day
Tuesday morning began with the ABA Gist Breakfast: State Affairs, where attendees received an update on key state-level policy developments impacting the baking industry.
The session highlighted legislative trends, regulatory changes and emerging issues across state capitals nationwide. By examining the evolving policy landscape, the discussion helped attendees stay informed on issues that may influence commercial baking operations and advocacy priorities in the months ahead.
Innovation and AI in Manufacturing
The morning keynote featured Jon McNeill, former President of Tesla, former COO of Lyft and CEO of DVx Ventures, who delivered a business session titled “Mastering Innovation and Scalability: Providing an Algorithm for Success.”
Drawing on his experience leading high-growth technology and manufacturing companies, McNeill explored where artificial intelligence is creating meaningful business value. He shared real-world examples from advanced manufacturing and technology sectors, helping executives understand where AI investments are delivering measurable returns—and where expectations may be outpacing reality.
McNeill also introduced a practical framework designed to help leaders prioritize AI initiatives, manage risk and scale innovation effectively, offering attendees a clear roadmap for integrating emerging technologies into their organizations.
Examining the Impact of GLP-1 Medications on Food Choices
Consumer health trends took center stage during a session exploring how GLP-1 medications are reshaping eating habits and food purchasing behavior.
The session began with a medical overview of how GLP-1 drugs work and how they influence appetite, portion sizes and meal frequency. Anne-Marie Roerink, President of 210 Analytics, then shared research examining how consumers using these medications are changing the way they shop for food.
Together, the insights highlighted emerging trends that could influence future demand, providing baking industry leaders with important context as they evaluate evolving consumer preferences and opportunities for product innovation.

Leading with Purpose in Uncertain Times
The ABA Convention's final keynote came during the ATBI Leadership Session, where Colonel Dan Rooney, fighter pilot, PGA professional and founder of Folds of Honor, delivered a powerful presentation titled “CAVU: Living and Leading with Clear Purpose in Turbulent Times.”
Drawing on lessons from aviation and his own leadership journey, Rooney introduced the concept of CAVU, meaning “Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited,” as a framework for navigating uncertainty with clarity and conviction. Through personal stories and leadership insights, he challenged attendees to embrace resilience, align their actions with purpose and lead with service at the center of their work.
Bakers Give Back Supports Veterans
Tuesday’s programming also featured the Bakers Give Back Community Service Event and Luncheon, continuing the Convention’s tradition of giving back to the local community.
This year’s initiative supported K9s For Warriors, the nation’s largest provider of trained service dogs for veterans living with PTSD, traumatic brain injury and military sexual trauma. With many of the dogs being rescues, the organization creates life-changing partnerships between veterans and service animals, helping both build new paths forward.
The event offered attendees a meaningful opportunity to connect with peers while supporting a mission that reflects the baking industry’s commitment to community service and compassion.
Together, Tuesday’s sessions highlighted the innovation, leadership and shared purpose that continue to drive the commercial baking industry forward.
